Potential Slip Road Closure

Potential closure of slip road, Severn View Road

Due to the slip road and general junction design here, vehicles enter the residential area at high speeds. There is also a primary school on this road.The road main road junction is sufficient without the slip road and therefore the option here would be to close the &#39;slipway&#39; section of the junction to motor vehicles. This space could then be reallocated to active travel modes and things like planting and seating.

Potential Path Improvements

Alleyway opposite the Sheiling School

The alleyway here is narrow which can be inaccessible for some people including those in wheelchairs or mobility scoots and with pushchairs. The low levels of lighting can also make the path feel uninviting or unsafe particularly in winter months.Options here include widening the path and increasing lighting levels.

Junction between Church road and Clare Walk

Wide junction between Church Road and Clare Walk

The junction between Church Road and Clare Walk is very wide which can make it difficult for pedestrians to cross quickly and safely as vehicles travel into the side streets at speed.&nbsp;A suggested option here would be changes to the junction including creating a continuous footpath and using plants to encourage cars to slow down and making the junction safer for people walking and wheeling.

Potential Step-Free Access Options

Stepped access, Easton Hill Road

Access in this location is via steps only which limits access to some users including those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters or pushchairs.Options for improvement include installation of a ramp or alternative access path.

Potential New Crossing and Parking Restrictions

Improvements to Park Road outside the Castle School

At the moment, there is no formal crossing on Park Road outside the Castle School. Cars parking on the road, particularly at pick up and drop off time also make it harder for children to safely cross the road. There are several other schools on this street too including Manorbrook Primary School, The Sheiling School and Rainbow Teddies Pre-School.Solutions here could look at creating at least one new crossing and opportunities to reduce parking on the street especially during peak school drop off and pick up times.

Junction between Easton Hill Rd, Eastland Rd and Severn View Rd

Safety at junction between Eastland Road, Easton Hill Road and Severn View Road

The junction in this area is very wide which allows vehicles to travel at high speed into side streets, making it difficult for pedestrian to cross. There is no formal crossing point at the junction, impacting safety of pedestrians including children attending Christ the King School in this area.&nbsp;Options here would look at changing the junction design to make it safer for people to cross through a continuous footpath and use of planters and junction layout to encourage cards to slow down when entering the residential road.

Options for Footpath Improvements

No footway on Kington Lane

Currently, there is no footway on either side of Kington Lane in this area and visibility is limited on the corner.&nbsp;The narrow width of the road reduces the types of solution available here but suggested options could include improvements to the footpaths and cycle paths on surrounding streets and adding signs to improve wayfinding of alternative routes.&nbsp;Alternatively, a traffic management system could be created which reduces the road width to create space to add a new footpath.

We want to make Thornbury a great place to walk, cycle and wheel (use a wheelchair) by making changes like building new cycle lanes or better crossing points.&nbsp;Please answer this survey to tell us how you normally travel and what we can do to make it safer and easier for you to walk, wheel or cycle around Thornbury.If you are under 13 years old, please ask a parent, carer or teacher to fill out this survey for you.
